Free Online Security Tools
These free online security tools help you generate passwords, compare file fingerprints, inspect encoded tokens and investigate network information. Choose a tool according to the question you need answered. Creating a credential, checking whether two files match and reading a token’s claims are different operations, even when their outputs look like similar strings.

Security Tools FAQs
What is the difference between hashing and encryption?
Hashing creates a fingerprint used for comparison. Encryption creates data intended to be recovered with the correct key. A hash is not a reversible way to store a message.
Does decoding a JWT verify that it is trustworthy?
No. Decoding reveals the header and payload. Trust also depends on signature verification, the expected issuer and audience, and the application’s other validation rules.
Which checksum should I compare for a downloaded file?
Use the algorithm and full expected digest supplied by a trusted publisher. A SHA-256 digest cannot be compared directly with an MD5 digest.
Can an IP lookup identify a particular person?
An IP lookup can provide network or approximate location information. It does not establish which individual used an address, especially on shared or changing connections.
Does a successful URL check guarantee that a link is safe?
No. A check is an observation at a particular time and may not detect every threat or later change. Inspect the destination and use appropriate browser protections.
